This book's theme was companionship. It explains how when you first get your dog you want to take the place of it's mother. You will become companions in your everyday life. This book demonstrates how when you are out hunting with your dog you are both companions in your achievements. One can't complete their job without the other.
In Water Dog Wolters is talking as if he is a teacher. It is told in first person. Wolters puts personal experiences into his writing which gives the book more meaningful and helpful when training your pup.
The intended audience for this book is anyone who is attempting to train their dog to become a duck or goose hunting dog. It is well written and easily understood. Anyone from the age of 12 to 100 could easily understand this book enough to train their dog.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is attempting to train a dog. Sammy reviews this book as follows: "i really like the training methods employed in this book.even though the book is not new,the methods still work." I also agree with what she says. Guido says, "I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has helped me with my 3 year old Golden that is smart, but we were not working together. He has gotten a lot better. Still somewhat gun shy, but no book in the world will help that."
